Hi everybody…..my name is Beryl Darrah. If you live in or around Valley Falls, KS, you may know me. I retired in 2003 after spending 38 years associated with the Valley Falls public schools…..34 years as a teacher and counselor…..and four more years as a member of the board of education.
As the happy occasion of my retirement approached, many people assured me….warned me…..admonished me……and some probably secretly hoped……that I would be bored to tears….and would probably find myself sulking around the house, sorry that I had retired and wishing I were working again.
Well, sorry…..it didn’t turn out that way. Looking back, I honestly don’t know how I ever found the time to go to work every day! Since I retired, there have been so many thing to do, to see, to experience. Interesting things, fun….even frivolous…..things, and noble (to me, at least) things.
Since I am not getting any younger in age…..I depend on my attitude and my experiences and the people in my life to keep me young.
My life more or less revolves around family and friends. Around travel. Around volunteering. Around hosting a variety of foreign and domestic guests whom I have met through a couple international hosting organizations. Around continued education through taking adult education classes. Around exercise…..my books…..my computer…..my music……
I decided to write this blog mostly to remind myself of my wonderful…..yet simple….life. To remind me of all the wonderful people I meet….of all the interesting things that I do……of the things that occupy my life…..and keep me….in the words of Bob Dylan…..”forever young”.
It is mainly for me….. But, hey…..if you want to get a glimpse into my life……come on, get on-board, and let’s get on with it.
If you have nothing better to do…..you might also want to take a quick look at my web page: www.bdarrah.com
It is what I like to call a “historical” page……mostly for me, my extended family, and my former foreign guests. I hope that future generations…..the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th…etc. cousins. The great, the great-great, the great-great-great nieces and nephews…..will take a look at it and can know something about one of their “ancestors”. And, the truth is…..my two brothers and I are the end of an era. We are the last surviving members of this generation of the Darrah family……and close to it on my mother’s side, too.
That’s it. Happy reading. Stay young. Stay healthy. Stay contented.
